Having the right tools to support the recruitment process is a critical success factor for Randstad, the world's largest employment agency, with over 2.5 million candidates placed each year. I helped them by leading a team of designers from Essense on a multi-million-dollar project developing an internal platform that better supports their consultants in finding the best candidates for each job.

How do you explain the basic principles of Service Design to a diverse crowd of everyday people? This is the challenge we at Essense faced when we decided to set up a stand to showcase our work during the Dutch Design Week. Together with a colleague, we were asked to design an engaging experience for the visitors while teaching them a thing or two about our process.

Deep Brain Stimulation is a technique that alleviates some of the symptoms of Parkinson’s patients by introducing an electrode into a precise area of the brain and stimulating it with an electrical charge. I was part of the VanBerlo team that helped Sapiens, a Dutch medical startup, to identify user-related challenges that medical professionals would face throughout the procedure, and to design their software for brain surgery planning.
