I’m David Güiza Caicedo, a Colombian/Dutch designer based in Toronto, and I facilitate the development of great products and services. Curious about my work? Take a look around! and if you like what you see here and think I could help create first-class experiences for your business, get in touch and we can have a chat in English, Dutch or Spanish :-)
What do I do?
I’ve been doing design work for over two decades with small startups, design agencies, and big multinationals. I helped them design award-winning consumer electronics, industrial machinery, healthcare systems, e-commerce, desktop software, and mobile apps, among other things.
How do I do it?
I use a broad set of methods to help us understand the challenge and to ensure that we are solving the right problems. This allows us to discover new opportunities that were not evident at first sight. I can then help to translate these insights into tangible solutions via mockups and prototypes that can be tested with real people. By basing our process on research and continuous testing of ideas, we can make sure that our solutions are successful.
What’s my background?
I studied at the Delft University of Technology, one of Europe’s top design institutions. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design Engineering and graduated with honors (Cum Laude) from my Design for Interaction Master of Science. This gives me a strong background in design, business, and technology, to keep solutions grounded and feasible.
How do I keep up to date?
I try to remain active within the creative community by reading articles, attending conferences, meetups, participating in (and occasionally organizing) workshops. This helps me to keep up with industry developments and learn from the experiences of fellow designers. And of course, to make some very interesting friends along the way. I’ve also mentored students during their graduation projects and coached junior designers at the companies I’ve worked for.
And in my free time?
My free time is a good mix of chilling and being active. I brew my own beer at home. I draw a bit when I find the time. I’ve visited 19% of the world’s countries and plan to increase that number considerably, especially if it’s while attending a major football event. I love riding my halfbike, and every week I join my friends for a game of basketball.
So that’s a bit about me. Still feeling curious about what I do or how I could impact your business? Take a look at how I’ve already helped some organizations create better products, or get in contact with me and let’s have a chat 🙂
